Friday 30 April Kyle update
Kyle was transfered via ambulence to Phoenix childrens hospital this morning. He is scheduled for another echo-cardiogram tomorrow morning. He was started on a dieretic medicine last night which is helping to draw the excess water from his heart and lungs. He will be starting a new medicine tonight which will help relax his arteries to help his heart work more efficiently. This weekend will be spent stabilizing his weight and hopefully gaining some also. On Monday morning the pediatric cardiology surgery team meets together to discuss the patients needing surgery that week. Together they will go over Kyles echo and form a plan of what the best thing to do will be. It is most likely that he will be scheduled for surgery sometime next week. He will be in recovery in the PICU afterwards so anyone wanting to visit would be encouraged to do so this weekend. As long as you are completely healthy you are welcome between 8am and 8pm in room 407B. We will know exactly what is happening by Monday night. Thank you for all of your prayers.

Kyle's Unexpected Surgery
ear Friends and Family,
Kyle was admitted to Banner Desert Hospital late last night. He had begun losing weight and at 7 months he weighed only 11 lbs... the size of a typically developing 2-3 month old baby boy. He was also displaying some other classic signs of heart failure including excessive sweating while nursing and becoming out of breath after tummy time or other strenuous activity like holding his head upright. His oxygen levels have stayed high and he has no fluid in his lungs. He is beginning to retain water, another sign that his heart is overexerting itself. He had an echo-cardiogram performed this afternoon and after the pediatric cardiologist reviewed it he realized the VSD (ventricular septal defect... or the hole between his bottom two chambers of his heart) was much larger then previously thought and would require surgery to fix.
Kyle will be put on an NG tube tonight. That is a soft flexible tube that will go up his nose and drip my milk directly to his stomach. That way he can get the calories without the excessive workout that nursing turns out to be. They want to put a little bit of weight on him before he has his surgery. We will be transfered tomorrow to Phoenix Children's Hospital where we will stay for probably a week before his Open Heart Surgery. After which he will require a 1 to 2 week recovery stay. Hopefully he will be home the beginning of June.
I will be updated our family blog regularly with updates on him as we receive them. www.kevinandheidiandfamily.blogspot.com. We would appreciate all of your prayers on his behalf. Nikolai made me cry when he came to visit this afternoon and told me he had fasted and prayed for Kyle today, all on his own. It was such a touching moment. If any of you would like to join him in this I know the heavens will be opened and our Kyle will be blessed.

6 Weeks ago...
This is what Kyle's best effort at lifting his head looked like.
a month ago he could get 45 degrees off the floor and two weeks ago...
he hit 90 degrees!!!! I'm so glad I've been taking these photos. I love to see the obvious progress he has made in the short time we have been working with our Physical Therapist.and I can't forget the rest of my amazing munchkins!

"Hello, my name is Mr. Adorable" When he was born the Rapier's made an "It's a Boy" sign for Kyle. On the top Amy wrote "Mr. Adorable Anderson Addition" When I saw this shirt it was a no-brainer, I had to buy it. Besides, don't you agree?
Okay, I have an awful lot of these proud faces but seriously when you are 6 1/2 months old and figure out how to do something as difficult as holding onto a rattle WHILE shaking it, wouldn't you be proud too?
Cuddling with his biggest sister, Haleigh. I love how he is starting to hold on while you are holding him.

He finally does not scream during bath time and actually smiles on occasion at his big sister.

Was spent in the ER with Nikolai getting stitches in the bottom of his foot. I am only surprised it actually took 10 years for him to get his first stitches. It was a very long and exhausting night and his foot is healing up nicely. He had to go around on crutches all last week but is hobbling okay now and gets them taken out on Tuesday.Easter Morning
All I can say is I should get some kind of recognition for my amazing abilities to get four kids looking at the camera all at the same time!
The Easter Bunny made each kid their own special bunny and left trails of personalized eggs to lead them to their own baskets.
Is there Such a Thing as TOO MANY Easter Egg Hunts?
Well, after looking at this big happy family photo where all four kids are not Happy, I'd have to contend that there is... unfortunately this was actually the FIRST one we participated it. We lost two kids at it and had a blast (I mean, besides being afraid of the Easter Bunny :). It was held at Rocking R Ranch and hosted by "Sharing Down syndrome of AZ"
On Saturday before Easter we got together with the Rapier's and my Dad for a family Egg hunt and lunch.
And finally on Easter itself we held one at our house with our kids, grand kid, and friends kids.
All I know is there is WAY too much candy in our house.
I'm just so Impressed
One of Kyle's most recent accomplishments includes being able to grab a toy and bring it to his mouth. Here he demonstrates this skill and one of my other favorites: talking :)
