My Scientist

We got Nikolai a "501 Science Project" book for Christmas this year for very good reason. It is full of different experiments in the different sciences that you can do with things you already have at home. He was home sick, too sick to go to school but better enough to not stay in bed, so he got out his book and experimented about gasses and filling up a balloon with a gas created with a combination of chemicals in our kitchen: vinegar and "sodium bicarbonate" which he looked up in the dictionary himself to discover it meant baking soda.

Climbing!!!

Sara's been able to climb a little bit up until now. She celebrated her first birthday by discovering how she can truly go as high as she wants to...

Up on the piano, she pushes her car over, climbs on the bench, then the keyboard, and will get to the top if I let her. I've discovered that the piano bench has to be tucked ALL the way in ALL the time or I turn the corner and find this... AHHHH!
This is her favorite little chair to climb. She can't quite get onto the big kitchen chairs but she CAN get onto this one then onto a big kitchen chair THEN onto the table...

Here is the beginning of her piano climbing discoveries, see the back leg on its way up to the bench? She loves playing the piano just like her big brother and sister and now can reach it all by herself!
If she pushes a box or toy or pillow over to our round coffee table she can get up on that too...

Couches are no big deal anymore. She used to need her trusty box to get up there but now can do it all by herself. This one isn't so bad except that means I have to baby proof even higher up the bookshelf.
An all time favorite, classic Sara move, climbing into the recycling bin. She is also rather proficient at climbing on top of filled laundry baskets and loves to be pushed from one room to the next on laundry days on top of clean or dirty laundry, she has no preference.

Her all time favorite place to climb to... the back of Mommy's chair when she is on the computer, Mommy then pretends to "sit" on her and Sara laughs and laughs.

Random cute snapshots from the party

Nikolai and Colin got the biggest kick out of the root beer.
Another cute shot of Sara and the puppy in the stroller.

"See? I have a puppy in here!" She went around showing everyone.
Grandma Anderson's Rabbit played peek-a-boo and had Zach and Sara laughing. I love that Kevin got his Mom smiling too.
Everyone sitting around eating pizza for lunch. YUM! Papa Frank, Emma, MaryKate, Amy (on the couch), Nikolai, Colin, and Zach.
Mommy and Sara
I love this grinning, no toothy girl!
All the kids LOVED playing with Papa Frank. Nikolai, Colin (on his lap), Sara and Zach
Sleepy girl on Daddy's shoulder, (Daddy wasn't sleepy, just got him in the middle of a blink, the picture was so cute I had to post it though)

Look at these cousins! Too Cute!

Gifts!

There's a puppy in my stroller! She got a hoot out of this and pushed and pushed him around and showed him to everyone and laughed and laughed... SOOO CUTE!!!
Sara loves her new baby doll from MaryKate and her Dora chair that plays music.

And she loves the new lovey and bracelet from the Rapiers

She sat on her chair while Mommy opened presents for her and Zach sat on the little chair from Oma
A big hug for the huge rabbit from Grandma Anderson, I love Zach's grin in the background!

Cake and Rootbeer!

Sara and MaryKate helped with decorating the cakes... okay, they helped by licking the spoons... but hey, I couldn't have done it without them.

The before of the Elmo cakes, (in the mist of root beer), I made two exactly the same, one for Sara to destroy, and another for us to enjoy...

During the eating frenzy... MaryKate showing the balloons that served as decorations AND party favors, each kid that came got to go home with a balloon!

And here is the AFTER of poor Elmo, she started at his nose and worked her way out.

Kevin somehow persuaded customer service at Fry's to actually OPEN the dry ice container instead of giving him their usual "we're out" answer so we got to enjoy his specialty, homemade root beer!

One Year Old and Chocolate Muffins for breakfast!

I can't believe it's been a year and I can't believe that this time last year THIS is what our little Sara looked like... what an itty bitty baby. Time goes by so quickly. We have such a joyous little girl who makes life all the sweeter for her being in it.

Sara and the Puppies

Look at those faces!!!! Every litter we have they get cuter and cuter.

Sara is fascinated by the puppies. She wants to be one and will climb in their cage with them any opportunity she gets, she even figured out how to unlatch the top latch herself so we have to make sure the bottom one is always done or this is what we find!

When we clean the cage the puppies go on the back porch or, if it is too cold, in a laundry basket. Sara REALLY wants to be in there with them. She tried head over heals....

AND heals over head.

We are still teaching her how to be gentle. Here she is holding Sugar by his neck. Luckily, she has learned to pick them up under their front legs instead since this picture was taken. The puppies are learning from the beginning to be patient with babies thanks to Sara's help.
