A fistfull of Fun

Sara has two BFF's... Best Furry Friends. Tigger was her first love that quickly transferred to Elmo and it has stayed at Elmo for over a month now. Anything red and googly eyed gets her giggly attention. She doesn't pay attention to T.V. usually but if Elmo's world comes on she is all grinning ears.
Marilee... remember the "No playing with the water dispenser" rule I had when Nikolai was little? Well, I think it's time to reinstate that.
A favorite pastime. Pulling out all the wipes. This is how I get her to stay still, now that her hair is long and thick enough, long enough to let me do her hair in one little pony tail on the top. Look how pleased she is in herself. "Look Ma! I did it!"

Food, Food, and more Food

Sara is a nursing queen and as a result she absolutely refuses to have anything to do with bottles. At the same time, sippy cups are totally out of the question. She happily drinks out of a regular cup or out of this great sippy cup with a straw!
Here is a demonstration of her drinking out of a real cup at dinner. Most of it amazingly gets inside of her, as long as I only put in 1/4 inch of liquid.

Sara is at that delightful stage where she insists on feeding herself. This makes for a very happy, hungry and messy baby. This was donut day and the day where she discovered how much she loves chocolate. A long way from the new born who threw up all day if I ate one thin mint.
Plums. Need I say more? We currently use three spoons to feed Sara. She'll juggle with you, taking one out of your hand to feed herself, then dropping it when you come up with another. So she constantly needs one in each hand then one for me so some of the food actually gets in her tummy. It is a circus some days at meal times.
This happens more often then I ever thought possible. She doesn't just fall asleep in her high chair... she falls asleep WHILE eating.

Our Creative Girl

MaryKate is a delight to me. She is always full of creative ideas and loves to help me in any way she can. Last Sunday I woke up to find a menu on my lap (I was sleeping in our recliner with a sleeping Sara). It was for the restaurant MaryKate created. She made me my breakfast and brought it out to me.

MaryKate loves to be in the middle of whatever Sara is playing.
MaryKate is very into crafts lately. This is her working on a new friend she named "Sunshine". She's wearing an apron over her Sunday dress because she had been helping me make dinner.
And here is her finished result. I love this pose of her. It is so sweet. She knows all her angles and could be a model, the way she works it.
Here she is again, playing Sara's new favorite game, Train in the Laundry Basket. MaryKate makes a great engine.

A cat named Bob

At Nikolai's last Cub Scout Pack Meeting he got to go "Bobbing" for apples because he earned his BobCat!!! He is now a self proclaimed Cat named Bob.

Pickle Lover

For those of you who know Nikolai well you know his nick-name is "Pickle-Pot-Pie". I started calling him that when, as a little baby, he couldn't get enough of the sour snack. Sara has proved that she is HIS sister. She LOVES pickles. Look closely, she is grabbing my hand and pulling it hard towards her. People at restaurants get a kick out of watching her. She even manages to bite off chunks... without any teeth, I'll never know how.

Mini Olympian

Nikolai's third grade class celebrated the Olympics by holding their own "mini-Olympics". They performed in shot put with cotton balls, javelin with drinking straws, and discus with paper plates. Here Nikolai is counting the area in his traced foot in the "Big-Foot Contest".
Nikolai is testing how strong his left hand is by measuring how much water he can squeeze out of a sponge with one squeeze. They also tested their right hand by seeing how many marbles they could pick up at a time then counted them.
Everybody received a gold medal and wore their olive leaf head bands just like they did in ancient Greece. Everyone was shocked when their teacher announced that they had just completed their math lesson for the day. "What! We were doing MATH! I don't remember that!" said Nikolai. They had made guesses of how much their measurements would be on each event, then recorded the actual measurement then recorded the difference... it is the best way to do math that I know! Hands on!!!

Lending a Helping Hand

Sara is at that stage where she is very interested in what everyone else in her family is doing and is insisting on "helping" us. It is so fun to watch her interact with all of us. Here she is helping MaryKate with her piano practice. MaryKate is especially patient with her and lets her tag along and teaches her how to do whatever she's doing.
Here, she "helped" her Daddy by pulling off one of the keys on his computer. Whoops. She had it off and in her mouth before I could get her. We have yet to successfully put it back on. (Seriously, has anyone ever tried to get keys off of a laptop? It is so difficult it is surprising that she accomplished this in a matter of seconds)
Helping Mommy with the dishes. Basically helping meant she sat on the door and pulled out the dirty utensils as I put them in, tasting each one before dropping it on the floor for me. She put her new climbing skills into this one though, it's hard to get up here and then even harder to get down without crashing.
Helping MaryKate push the craft box down the hall and back into the office. She was so excited when she saw MaryKate pushing it, she crawled across the room as fast as can be and climbed up. She wants to be just like her big sister, I'm glad she has such a great example.
Sara is very eco-minded already, here she is helping me by sorting through our recycling bin. I have come to the conclusion over these last couple of days that I need to either accept the fact of recycling trash all over my kitchen floor, buy a bigger bin that she can't reach into, or get Kevin to take it out more often :), just kidding, I need to take it out more often.
